Ajax in Iraq

  • Ajax in Iraq
commissioned by Flux Theatre Ensemble for its June 2011 production
  • Ajax in Iraq, written by theatre royalty Ellen McLaughlin, is a mash-up between Sophocles' Ajax and present-day Iraq. This was the image used to promote Flux Theatre Ensemble's New York production.
  • Photos (cropping mine): Isaiah Tanenbaum / pictured, from left: Chinaza Uche, Christina Shipp, Stephen Conrad Moore and Lori Parquet.

It's exciting and rewarding to see the elements of the page brought to life, for lack of a better term. Good theatre takes the seamless whole into account, and this is good theatre.

  • One of the design decisions made during my meetings with Flux was to physically link all three production images for season 4 into one panoramic image, image no. 1 representing Dog Act by Liz Duffy Adams, image no. 2 representing Ajax in Iraq by Ellen McLaughlin, and image no. 3 by Erin Browne representing Menders.
