Based on Dalton Trumbo's once-banned book Johnny Got His Gun, Johnny is a soldier abandoned:by a father who dies, by a war that did not make him into a man or a hero, and maybe even by his spiritual faith. His extreme physical distress mirrors his fraying connections to the world.
One of the pieces from this project of three triptychs was featured in the American Illustration 28 annual.

The first triptych was repurposed for an event called New World Iliads, presented by Flux Theatre Ensemble and featuring artwork by Carrier Pigeon: Illustration and Fine Art contributors. On three occasions four playwrights were given five days to write short plays based on the themes of Flux's mainstage production, and this artwork was used as source material. The results were surprising and diverse. What more could you ask for?
