  • I am an illustrator currently living in New York. I hail from Louisiana, where the
mosquitoes are epically sized and the fish flash-fry themselves in mid-air. The air
of New York sometimes feels a bit thin in comparison. Fortunately, being short of
breath is sometimes an asset for a daydreamer.

I received my MFA in Illustration from the School of Visual Arts in 2010. My work has
been featured by American Illustration, Creative Quarterly, and Communication Arts.
  • For me, illustration is an act of content and asset creation.
Design, art direction and editing skills are part of this.

    1. My process starts with a conversation
(over the phone, email, or in person)
during which I try to learn as much as i can about your goal for your image or your
larger project. Below is a very generalized look at how the rest works:

    2. I take notes.
    3. I create lots of thumbnails, and I send them to you. We have another conversation.
    4. I expand the most successful thumbnails into sketches, and I send them to you.
    We continue to communicate.
    5. Once your favorite sketch is approved I create a final image—by means of brush and
ink, pen, or entirely digitally, depending on what we've discussed.
    Note: my approach to
color is not to cover up the image/design, but rather to use color to strengthen the content.
    6.
If there's to be animation involved, the image is saved in discreet layers that allow for
rotation of joints, etc., to facilitate motion.
    7. We continue to communicate, and to tweak as needed.
    9. Once you are over-the-moon-happy the final, high-res image is submitted in the desired
    file format.
Note: I always save an editable file in case the project is revisited/expanded at
    a later time.
    10. We become best friends. You tell everyone about me. We name our children after each
    other.

    Ta-da! Easy.
